I bring a warm compassionate style to the therapeutic space backed by an understanding of evidence-based therapy and models for understanding people. I believe therapy is as much about achieving and maintaining wellbeing as it is about supporting people as they negotiate life’s challenges.
I have always been genuinely interested in people. My curiosity is a quality that helps me connect with people and create trust in the therapeutic process. Clients are encouraged to be open and honest to ensure psychotherapy is most effective.
My work is guided by a compassion based approach to therapy. I am mindful that a safe space, in which my clients’ feel heard and understood, forms the foundation from which exploring difficulties and co-creating meaning is possible.
I welcome clients from a range of backgrounds and life experiences. I enjoy working to understand how early development, family type, culture and beliefs may be informing difficulties. Sexuality and identity often form part of these conversations and I enjoy helping clients explore such important aspects of self.
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate" - Carl Jung
As a clinical psychologist my role is to assist as people make sustained and meaningful change in their life. I encourage clients to walk beside me to understand how biology, personality, situational factors and previous life experiences may be impacting current difficulties. Together we’ll decide on a plan forward and commence the sometimes hard work of emotional and behavioural change.
My professional life started out as a primary school teacher. However after 10 years I left to pursue an 8 year course of study, retraining as a registered Clinical Psychologist. I have also worked as a group facilitator and community education officer in the not-for-profit sector.
Registered in 2013, my work history incorporates experience in both private and government sectors. I’ve spent the past ten years working as a Senior School Psychologist in some of Perth’s largest high schools. This involved managing complex cases that required a combination of individual support, school and inter-agency consultancy and school-based psychoeducation. All designed to support young people, their families and the school work toward stability and wellbeing.
This experience has given me a keen understanding of how systemic interventions can form a powerful part of therapeutic success.
Now embarking on my own private practice journey, I look forward to seeing how my knowledge and skills can best support you.
I am trained in the following approaches:
